It is with great excitement and deep gratitude that I introduce myself as the new principal of Holston Middle School. I am honored to join this vibrant school community and look forward to an incredible year of learning, growth, and collaboration.

My name is Dr. Amber Roberts, and I bring with me over 27 years of experience in education, a passion for student success, and a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment. I began my career teaching 8th grade in Henry County, Georgia, where I spent 11 wonderful years in the classroom. I then transitioned into school leadership, serving as an assistant principal at Oak Ridge High School for 13 years, followed by 3 years at Hardin Valley Academy.

On a personal note, I have been happily married to my husband, Dr. John Roberts, for 10 years. When we married, I became the proud stepmom to five amazing children, the last of whom are entering their final year of high school this year.   We also share our home with one very spirited black Labrador retriever named Gertrude. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, watching movies, traveling, hiking, and spending time on the water—whether it's a peaceful lake or a breezy shoreline.

As I begin this new chapter at Holston Middle, I am humbled by the opportunity to lead such an exceptional staff and dynamic student body. I believe in the power of strong relationships and open communication, and I am committed to partnering with our families and the broader community to ensure every student thrives.

Here’s to a fantastic school year ahead—Go Hurricanes!

  • Allison Mullins

My name is Allison Mullins, and I absolutely love being an assistant principal at Holston Middle School.  I attended Holston as a student, started my teaching career here, sent all 3 of my children to Holston, and returned to Holston to begin my administrative experience.  Holston feels like home to me.  I consider it a huge blessing to get to encourage, mentor, and lead teachers and students at this special place!!

As a new teacher at Holston, I had a principal that pushed me out of my comfort zone and insisted that I take on several leadership opportunities.  Over the course of my 8 years teaching at Holston, I served as team leader, ELA department chair, TAP mentor teacher, and summer school principal. I also taught in all 3 grade levels and served as the cheer coach for a number of years.  After teaching at Holston for 8 years, I was asked to move to Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Academy to help implement some of our amazing work there.  I served as an instructional coach at SMG for 6 years before accepting the position of assistant principal at Holston.  I am so thankful for the many experiences that one mentor afforded me by seeing more in me than I was able to see in myself.  I hope to be that same voice for others!

My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a Master's of Science degree in Elementary Education, and a Reading Specialist endorsement from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Additionally, I received an Education Specialist degree in Leadership and Administration from Lincoln Memorial University.

Personally, my husband and I have 3 grown children and 3 precious grandchildren.  We have taught Sunday School to encourage married couples for over a decade together.  We spend most of our free time spoiling our grandbabies or serving with our church family.

Please feel free to contact me with any positive feedback, questions, or concerns at 865-594-1300 or allison.mullins@knoxschools.org.

  • Darrian Jefferson

Hello! My name is Darrian Jefferson, and I’m excited to serve as the 8th Grade Principal at Holston Middle School.

Before joining the Holston community, I spent eleven wonderful years at Fulton High School, where I had the privilege of teaching Social Studies and serving as Department Chair and Lead Teacher. These experiences helped shape my passion for supporting students and preparing them for success beyond the classroom. My goal at Holston is to help our 8th graders grow academically, socially, and emotionally as they get ready to take the exciting next step into high school.

I’m proud to share this journey in education with my husband, Chris, who teaches Social Studies at Gibbs High School. We share our home with two retired racing greyhounds, Teal and Maci, who keep us on our toes and bring us lots of joy.

Outside of school, I enjoy cheering on the Vols, reading a good book, traveling to new places, relaxing on the lake, and spending quality time with family and friends.

I’m so excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to see all that our students will accomplish!
