CommonLit is a free digital tool that helps students in grades 5-12 make measurable gains in reading and writing. On CommonLit.org, teachers have access to a free library of high-interest, standards-aligned lessons, many of which connect directly to novels being read or time periods being studied.

CommonLit enables teachers to easily choose readings that are most developmentally appropriate; teachers can see a text's lexile level, intended grade, whether it is fiction, non-fiction, or poetry.  They have also done a fabulous job making available differentiated assignments for the same text; some learners need more challenge, while others need it read aloud or possibly translated into another language.

Teachers create accounts and then students join their class using a specific class code.  Below you will find links to screenshots of CommonLit from the teacher's perspective and from the student's perspective.  There is also a short video tour.
