• About the FCE Library

    The library collection consists of approximately 6,000 items:  fiction & nonfiction books (which make up the largest percentage), non-print materials, curriculum support materials, and periodicals.

    Students typically bring their Chromebooks to Library class.  Chromebooks are used for instruction, to complete assignments, and to access databases including the online public access catalog (OPAC), PebbleGo, World Book Online, and Tennessee Electronic Library as well as ebooks through MackinVIA.

    Every class, K-5th, has scheduled library time.  All classes meet for forty-five minutes, and each student is expected to adhere to the following expectations in the Media Center:
    • Be respectful
    • Be responsible
    • Be safe

    Information to be covered in classes will include:

    • literature enjoyment;
    • finding, using, and evaluating information;
    • instruction on using print and online sources;
    • care of materials;
    • selecting books for personal reading as well as curricular reading;
    • learning about the library - location of materials, library policies, and library procedures;
    • using the OPAC;
    • presentation of information.

    Students may check out books during their library classes.  Books may be checked out for one rotation with the option to renew unless there is a reserve on the book.  Students may have one book checked out at any time; students with overdue materials are not allowed to check out books until the book is renewed or returned.  Fines are not charged for overdue books. The replacement cost for lost or damaged books must be paid by the parent/ guardian; partial payments may be made until the full replacement cost is paid. If the cost is prohibitive, contact Mrs. Kelly about an alternative arrangement. All finanacial obligations are due by the end of the year.
