  • Which school would my child attend?

    Click here to open the KGIS school zone search.  If an exact match for your address is not found, the search will return a list of the official Knox County addresses closest to your address.   • How do I enroll my child?

    Parents should enroll their children at their zoned school (Find my school zone). If you have moved to Knox County Schools you should go to your zoned school and complete the Enrollment/Emergency Form and other school specific paperwork. You will need to take additional information with you when you enroll at the school.
     
    You will need the following:
    A birth certificate or officially acceptable proof of birth date
     
    Proof of up-to-date immunizations and of a health/physical examination, recorded on a Tennessee Child Health Record completed by a medical provider or a County Health Department. The form to be completed may be obtained from a medical provider or from the Health Department.  The health/physical examination must have been completed within the past year. No student will be enrolled or allowed to attend school without a completed Tennessee School Immunization Certificate.

  • At what age can my child begin Kindergarten?

    The cut-off date for Kindergarten is August 15th. Children will need to be five years old by August 15th. Knox County Schools has other Voluntary Pre-K programs and an Early Childhood program that are not requirements.

  • When is kindergarten registration?

    Kindergarten registration (Round-up) is held each spring in all KCS elementary schools. If you missed Kindergarten Roundup please register at your zoned school. If you are new to Knox County, have moved since the roundup, or missed the roundup, please contact your zoned school.

  • Where can I find the school calendar?

    You can find the District's calendar on the district homepage at knoxschools.org. Individual school calendars can be found on the school homepage.

  • What supplies does my child need for school?

    Each school will provide your child with a list of needed supplies on or before the first day of school . The list varies from school to school, so please visit individual school websites for announcements/lists of supplies.  You can use the schools dropdown at the top of each page to navigate to the individual school sites.

  • Where can I find the lunch menu?

    All of our menus are posted online. A printable version of the monthly menu is available on the cafeteria calendar. Please note that in May of each year there is no published menu. All menus in May are "Managers' choice".

  • What are the costs of breakfast and lunch?

    Thanks to a flexibility provided by USDA, ALL students are eligible to receive both breakfast and lunch at no cost through the 2021-2022 school year. Students who normally pay reduced or full-pay prices will not be charged for breakfast or lunch. This includes one breakfast and one lunch per student per day. A la carte items and extra portions are not included; however, those items can still be purchased with cash or funds on a student’s account.

  • Where can I find which bus my child would ride?

    Using your home street address in our online web search you can find nearby bus stops, times, and numbers. This service helps you determine the schools a student is eligible to attend and the available bus stops, as well as provides a helpful street map.

  • What school fees will my child be required to pay?

    The cost of school fees will be sent home the first day of school in your child’s back to school paperwork. If you are new to Knox County, please contact your local school. Fees are often listed on school web sites as well.

  • How can I contact my child’s teacher and principal?

    Posted by:
    One of the best ways to contact your child’s teacher and principal is to call the school office. At times you may have to leave a message so the teacher or principal can call you back. You can also contact teachers as well as follow student progress, attendance and more through Aspen Family Portal.

  • How can I meet my child’s teacher?

    You may meet your child’s teacher in a variety of ways such as attending Back to School meetings and at Open House nights as well as scheduling a parent – teacher conference. Teachers can be contacted via the Aspen Family Portal.

  • How often will my child receive a report card?

    Each child will receive a report card at the end of each nine week grading period and an interim report at the mid-point of each grading period. Report card dates can be found on the current calendar.

  • Is after school care is available at my child’s school?

    This information can be obtained by contacting the school office or visiting the individual school website. Many schools have private providers for after school care. Parents must make arrangements through the provider for transportation to and from school. Please check with your zoned school for details.

    Each elementary school has an active parent – teacher organization. Your involvement will provide you with many opportunities to support your child’s school and its instructional programs. If you are a business person seeking further involvement in the educational support of our students, you may want to consider our Business Partnerships program.
