Community Engagement
-
Community engagement is essential for our mission, and Knox County Schools provides multiple channels for educators, families, and community leaders to help shape our work.
District-wide engagement
Superintendent Dr. Jon Rysewyk and the KCS leadership team place strong value on community voice, and the following organizations were created to shape policy and provide diverse viewpoints for decision-making at the district level.
- The Superintendent's Council on Accelerating Student Learning brings together educators, families, partner organizations, business leaders, and college / trade school partners to help shape the district's early learning strategy.
- The Principal Advisory Council offers building-level expertise and guidance from talented school leaders.
- The CEO Champions are respected leaders who offer candid perspectives on critical industry and community issues.
Regional engagement
In 2022, Knox County Schools launched a regional structure designed to promote responsiveness and community ownership within the district. As part of that structure, councils in each of our five regions provide guidance and input that are specific to that region.
- Regional Family and Teacher Councils include family and teacher representatives from schools within each region. These councils will provide an ongoing opportunity for information sharing and consultation between teachers, families, and district leaders around items that impact schools, teachers, and students.
School-level engagement
Parent / family organizations – including PTSO's, PTA's, and Community School Steering Committees – are an important resource for schools to meet needs, support educators, and build a strong culture within their school community.
- Please consider joining your school's existing parent / family organization, or establishing a new one to support your school.
