    865 Academies Designation Day Celebration

    On May 4, Knox County Schools celebrated the district’s designation as a Ford Next Generation Learning community, an important step in the ongoing effort to transform the high school experience for students.

    Over the last year, the district has partnered with educators, students, community leaders and business leaders on the effort, which was convened and funded by Knox Education Foundation. The process has been facilitated by Ford NGL, an internationally recognized organization that seeks to convene strategic partnerships between school districts and local businesses to engage students in relevant learning and better equip them for college and career success in today’s competitive global economy.

    The celebration included:

    • Students, educators and school-level leaders from KCS;
    • Superintendent Bob Thomas;
    • Incoming superintendent Dr. Jon Rysewyk;
    • Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs;
    • City of Knoxville Chief ECD Officer and Deputy to the Mayor Stephanie Welch;
    • Cheryl Carrier, Executive Director, Ford Next Generation Learning; and
    • Elected officials, including members of the Board of Education
